. @ClaudeKelly Songwriting: 'I GOT YOU'

in 2009, I had the extreme honor and pleasure of working with one of my idols…WHITNEY HOUSTON.

i wrote 3 song for her ” Look to You album. “Like I Never Left”, “For The Lovers”, and a song called “I Got You”.

As is customary nowadays, my demo of the song has leaked online. i figured i would share it….and give a little background on the song. I get asked quite often how i get songs on artists and what it takes to sell songs to artists.

my philosophy is that you leave as little as possible to the imagination when writing/demo-ing/shopping songs.

i write, sing and record all of my music, both male and female for artists i’m seeking to work with. I try to make my presentation as close to how i would want it to sound on the radio as possible. thats exactly what i did in the case of this song.

that means, every lyric, melody, harmony, vocal arrangement, adlib etc is somewhat in the vain of the artist im pitching to…

“I Got You” was produced by Akon and written by me. This demo was sent to legendary Clive Davis who immediately got it and thought it would be perfect for Ms. Houston.

we recorded this song in Atlanta and had a BLAST working together. Whitney was feeling the song and knocked it out easily. Nothing like laughing too hard, and making beautiful music at the same time.

What, he's saying Forever isn't for her, or do you reckon he just bypassed it cause we didn't get Whitney's version or his demo?

I think he's awesome for dominating radiowaves the way he is these days, even if I hate a lot of those songs I think it's well-deserved and to me, if anyone can get away with doing some of the cheesiest songs ever written, it's Claude...still think it's an outrage we only got so few released S&K songs by him, they def bring out the best in him if you ask me, we got like 20 of them and only 2 or 3 that I don't really like [as opposed to many generic Claude songs that I might not hate but simply aren't anything special to me but were released], so I hope their increased working together on X-Factor will get us some more actual releases...I'm pretty sure we can expect some Astro / Chris Rene / Marcus Canty songs in the future though, even if they don't get signed it's pretty likely he'll be giving them free tracks to promote themselves...

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, although he has told us about the Toni tracks he wrote and that he & R. Kelly wrote 10 together but maybe he just wants to keep the Whitney ones under wraps because Clive Davis would have him murdered haha

Yeah definitely he's hit & miss but mostly hit for me. And as far as I know all three of those have been signed looks like they're really getting the most out of their X-Factor contestants this time, I think it took for runners up like JLS and Cher Lloyd to be successful to show them that they don't just have to sign the winner and runner up but they can make money and varied genres of hits on the charts by using quite a few of their contestants so hopefully even more decent collabos for us Wink

Yeah I hope so I think I'd start doubting all my beliefs if I got that one wrong lol

Ah and we have Rachel Crow affilated with Disney, surely Drew Ryniewicz is not gonna go without a contract for long, she's like 14 or something, and neither is Josh Krajcik being a finalist, that's 7 people lol...
